ACTIVITY
In 2019, several of Arran’s village committees/community groups agreed to take over the daily upkeep of their local public toilet facilities and the daily running and maintenance costs were covered variously by voluntary donation and local fundraising. However, during the 2020-21 pandemic when travel/movement was severely restricted, visitor donations dried up and the Arran Trust recognised the need for additional financial support to keep the facilities open, these being Blackwaterfoot Bogs, Brodick Improvements, Corrie & Sannox, Kilmory Hall, Lamlash Improvements & Whiting Bay Improvements.
OUTCOME
With Arran Trust support, local volunteers could carry out essential work to keep the facilities open to the public, enabling people to explore and appreciate Arran’s beautiful outdoors and to boost mental health which was so vital during the pandemic.
