ACTIVITY
A 2 km path is needed to access the North-East side of the side which is still impenetrable on foot due to clearfell debris, deadwood and deep holes/bogs Opening up this part of the site will form a large loop which would mean we could continue to plant more native trees and open it up to walkers and education groups and make it more wildlife friendly.
Roots of Arran Community Woodland are delighted to have the support of the Arran Trust.
OUTCOME
The landscape will be improved as Roots of Arran is changing a barren area of forestry clearfell which is extremely poor in biodiversity into a deciduous woodland which is rich in flora and fauna. It will look more attractive and will be more pleasant to walk through with more plant-life. It improves the soil structure and quality of the burn water in the long-term. It contributes to the global challenge of reducing CO2.
Walkers will benefit from this site being opened up with paths. This particular path will be one of the final loops to be put in place.
Education groups such as scouts, cubs, and school groups will be able to use the site further and contribute to the conservation element which is mainly through planting native deciduous trees and cutting down invasive species such as rhododendron and sitka.
Two local Forest School Leaders hope to secure funding to run further Forest School sessions on the site.
