ACTIVITY
Arran Geopark aims to improve access to, educate and protect the unique and spectacular geology on Arran, whilst benefitting the local economy. The outline plan is to tell the story of Arran over the last 600 million years, as it moved from near the South Pole, across the Equator, to its present location. It will do this through 3 linked interpretation centres, and six walks taking visitors to some of Arran’s unique geological sites. These will be enhanced with a website and dedicated app.
The Arran Geopark will involve pathwork and also interpretation.
OUTCOME
Locals and visitors will benefit from new routes and well maintained existing paths, two new interpretation areas, and geology interpretation on the ground, and events through the year. The Arran Trust is extremely supportive of the drive to make Arran a Geopark, which will have a positive knock-on effect for local businesses and accommodation providers
